O Ύπατος Αρμοστής της Κύπρου κ. Γεώργιος Ιωαννίδης στην Ι. Αρχιεπισκοπή Καναδά
Ο Εξοχ. Ύπατος Αρμοστής της Κυπριακής Δημοκρατίας κ. Γεώργιος Ιωαννίδης, επισκέφθηκε τον Σεβ. Αρχιεπίσκοπο Σωτήριο στην Ι. Αρχιεπισκοπή.
Ο Αρχιεπίσκοπος ξενάγησε τον Ύπατο Αρμοστή κ. Γ. Ιωαννίδη σε όλους τους χώρους της Ι. Αρχιεπισκοπής και ιδιαίτερα στον Ι.Ν. Αγ. Ιωάννη του Θεολόγου, στο υπό κατασκευή Μουσείο Ελληνοκαναδικής Κληρονομιάς, στην Πατριαρχική Θεολογική Ακαδημία Τορόντο και στον τέταρτο όροφο όπου στεγάζονται τα γραφεία της Ι. Αρχιεπισκοπής.
Συνεζήτησαν τα της προόδου της ελληνικής και κυπριακής ομογένειας στον Καναδά, τις στενές σχέσεις με την Ελλάδα και την Κύπρο. Το θέμα της συζήτησης επικεντρώθηκε στη συνεργασία όλων των Ελλήνων και Ελληνοκυπρίων στον Καναδά, την ένωση και τη συνεργασία την οποία πρέπει να έχουν για τις συνδιαλλαγές τους με τις κυβερνήσεις του Καναδά. Πρέπει οι ενέργειές τους να είναι συντονισμένες και να υπάρξει ένας κοινός φορέας, ώστε οι κυβερνήσεις να ανταποκρίνονται καλύτερα.
Η συνάντηση και η σύσκεψη ήταν ευχάριστη και δημιουργική. Τέλος αντήλλαξαν δώρα. Ο Αρχιεπίσκοπος ευχήθηκε στον νέο Υπατο Αρμοστή της Κύπρου κ. Γ. Ιωαννίδη η θητεία του στον Καναδά να είναι δημιουργική και ωφέλιμη για όλους και χαρακτηριστικά είπε, ότι η κατάρτισή του και η θετική αντιμετώπιση των καταστάσεων τον κάνει να μην έχει αμφιβολίες γι’αυτό.
The High Commissioner of Cyprus Mr. Georgios Ioannidis at the Holy Archdiocese of Canada
His Excellency Mr. Georgios Ioannidis, High Commissioner of the Republic of Cyprus to Canada, visited His Eminence Archbishop Sotirios at the Holy Archdiocese.
The Archbishop gave the High Commissioner a tour of the premises in the Archdiocese and especially the Church of St. John the Theologian, the construction of the Greek-Canadian Heritage Museum, the Patriarchal Toronto Orthodox Theological Academy, and the fourth floor where the administrative offices of the Archdiocese are located.
They discussed how far the Greek and Cypriot diaspora in Canada has progressed, and how close the relations are between Greece and Cyprus. The main topics of discussion were focused on how all Greeks and Greek-Cypriots should work together in Canada, and the consensus and cooperation they must have in their relationship with the Canadian government. Their actions must be coordinated and there should be a common body so that governments can respond better.
The meeting and the discussion that followed were pleasant and creative. Towards the end, gifts were exchanged. The Archbishop wished the new High Commissioner of Cyprus, Mr. Ioannidis, that his term in Canada be creative and beneficial to everyone, although — as His Eminence pointed out — Mr. Ioannidis’ training and positive dealing of matters leave no doubt for his future success.
