Archons Investiture in Canada
A Hierarchical Great Vespers was held on Tuesday, October 17, 2017, at St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church in Toronto for the feast of St. Luke the Evangelist, presided by His Eminence Metropolitan Sotirios and assisted by 17 priests.
His All-Holiness Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew honoured 10 Greek-Canadian Orthodox Christians across Canada with the title of Archon. At the conclusion of Great Vespers, the Investiture Ceremony for the Archons was held. Three new Archons were invested: Nicholas Aroutzidis, Archon Kastrinsios; Frank Topos, Archon Maestor; and, Dimitri Soudas, Archon Depoutatos. The remaining Archons will be invested later in the year during similar Great Vespers and dinners in Montreal and Vancouver, respectively.
After the Archon Investiture Ceremony, a dinner was held at the Metropolitan Centre next to St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church, with 260 people in attendance. The evening’s program began with prayer, followed by the national anthems of Greece and Canada. Speeches were delivered by: Jim Anas, Archon Depoutatos and President of the Ecumenical Patriarchate Archons in Canada; Archon Dimitris Soudas; and, the Hon. Alexandros Ioannidis, Consul General of Greece in Toronto.
A musical interlude followed the speeches, led by Fr. O. Drossos. It included three ecclesiastical hymns, four religious songs, and the Polychronion of His All-Holiness Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew.
Metropolitan Sotirios addressed the attendees following the interlude. His Eminence concluded the evening by firstly thanking His All-Holiness Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew, along with all those who organized such a successful evening. A special thanks was extended to Mrs. A. Sotiropoulos, the Community President and Fr. F. Pappas, the Parish Priest.
Metropolitan Sotirios remarked: “What can I say? ‘Behold I and my children which God has given me.’ Who, if they were in my position, wouldn’t be overjoyed and proud?” His Eminence also announced that the Opening Ceremonies for the new wing of the Metamorphosis Greek Orthodox Day School would take place the next day, Wednesday morning.
Metropolitan Sotirios closed the wonderful evening’s festivities with a benediction, asking everyone to chant the pheme of His All-Holiness Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew.
Χειροθεσία Αρχόντων στον Καναδά
Την Τρίτη 17 Οκτωβρίου, στον Ι.Ν. Αγ. Νικολάου Τορόντο, έγινε Μ. Αρχιερατικός Εσπερινός, στη γιορτή του Αγ. Λουκά του Ευαγγελιστού, προεξάρχοντος του Μητροπολίτη Σωτηρίου και με την συμμετοχή δεκαεπτά (17) ιερέων.
Ο Πᾳναγιώτατος Οικουμενικός Πατριάρχης τίμησε με το οφφίκιο του Άρχοντος δέκα (10) ομογενείς από όλο τον Καναδά. Στο τέλος του Εσπερινού έγινε τελέτη της χειροθεσίας των Αρχόντων. Τρεις (3) νέοι Άρχοντες χειροθετήθηκαν: Νικόλαος Αρουτζίδης, Άρχων Καστρίνσιος, Φρατζής Τόπος, Άρχων Μαΐστωρ και Δημήτριος Σούδας, Άρχων Δεπουτάτος. Οι υπόλοιποι Άρχοντες θα χειροθετηθούν αργότερα σε παρόμοιες Ι. Ακολουθίες και δείπνα στο Μόντρεαλ και στο Vancouver.
Μετά τη χειροθεσία των νέων Αρχόντων, παρετέθη δείπνο στο Πολιτιστικό Κέντρο της Ι. Μητρόπολης, δίπλα από τον Ι.Ν. Αγ. Νικολάου, στο οποίο παρεκάθησαν διακόσιοι εξήντα (260) συνδαιτυμόνες. Το πρόγραμμα του δείπνου περιελάμβανε προσευχή. Τους εθνικούς ύμνους Ελλάδας και Καναδά. Ομιλίες των κάτωθι: Δημητρίου Άνα, Άρχοντος Δεπουτάτου, Προέδρου των Αρχόντων του Οικουμενικού Πατριαρχείου στον Καναδά, Δημητρίου Σούδα, Άρχοντος Δεπουτάτου και Αλεξάνδρου Ιωαννίδη, Γενικού Προξένου της Ελλάδας στο Τορόντο.
Στη συνέχεια έγινε μουσικό πρόγραμμα το οποίο διηύθυνε ο π. Ο. Δρόσσος και περιελάμβανε τρεις (3) εκκλησιαστικούς ύμνους και τέσσερα (4) θρησκευτικά τραγούδια και τελείωσε με τον πολυχρονισμό του Παναγιωτάτου Οικουμενικού Πατριάρχη κ.κ. Βαρθολομαίου.
Στην συνέχεια μίλησε ο Μητροπολίτης Σωτήριος και έκλεισε τη βραδιά ευχαριστώντας και ευγνωμονώντας, πρώτα από όλους, τον Παναγιώτατο Οικουμενικό Πατριάρχη κ.κ. Βαρθολομαίο και μετά, όλους εκείνους οι οποίοι συνέβαλαν στην επιτυχία της βραδιάς και διαίτερα την κα Α. Σωτηροπούλου, πρόεδρο της Κοινότητας Αγ. Νικολάου και του Πολιτιστικού Κέντρου της Ι. Μητρόπολης και τον π. Φ. Πάππα.
Ο Μητροπολίτης Σωτήριος χαρακτηριστικά είπε «Τι να πω; Ιδού εγώ και τα παιδιά ά μοι έδωκεν ο Θεός. Ποιος αν ήταν στη θέση μου δεν θα ήταν πανευτυχής και υπερήφανος». Ανεκοίνωσε, ότι την επομένη ημέρα Τετάρτη πρωί, θα γίνουν τα εγκαίνια της νέας πτέρυγας του ημερήσιου Ελληνορθόδοξου σχολείου της Ι.Μ. «Μεταμόρφωση».
Ο Μητροπολίτης Σωτήριος έκλεισε την όμορφη βραδιά με προσευχή και κάλεσε όλους και έψαλαν μαζί τη φήμη του Παναγιωτάτου Οικουμενικού Πατριάρχη κ.κ. Βαρθολομαίου.
