Archbishop Sotirios with Minister Demetrios Nicolaides in Calgary

Archbishop Sotirios visited Calgary, Alberta as he has done for many years on the 31st of December. That evening, he was present at the New Year’s Eve celebration in the community hall. On the 1st of January, he celebrated the Divine Liturgy with Rev. Fr. D. Rougas and Rev. Fr. P. Rougas. Calgary is one of the communities that has a large number of people in church on the first day of the year.

The Hon. Demetrios Nicolaides, Minister of Advanced Education in Alberta, participated in the Divine Liturgy with his wife and their two daughters, each of whom partook in the mystery of Holy Communion.

Following the Divine Liturgy, the community had the traditional Vasilopita in the community center.

Archbishop Sotirios had the opportunity to have a friendly discussion with Minister Nicolaides. He asked him to convey his greetings to Premier Jason Kenney and invited him to visit the Archdiocese. They agreed to work together for the celebrations of the 200th anniversary of the independence of Greece in 2021.

Ο Αρχιεπίσκοπος Σωτήριος με τον Υπουργό κ. Δ. Νικολαΐδη στο Κάλγκαρι

Όπως κάθε χρόνο στις 31 Δεκεμβρίου, ο Αρχιεπίσκοπος Σωτήριος επισκέφθηκε το Κάλγκαρι και έλαβε μέρος στο δείπνο της πρωτοχρονιάς στο πολιτιστικό κέντρο της Κοινότητας Κάλγκαρι. Την επόμενη, 1η Ιανουαρίου, τέλεσε τη Θεία Λειτουργία, στον Ι.Ν. Αγ. Δημητρίου, βοηθούμενος από τον π. Δημήτριο Ρούγα και τον π. Παναγιώτη Ρούγα. Σημειώνεται εδώ, ότι το Κάλγαρι είναι μία από τις Κοινότητες που αρκετοί ευλαβείς χριστιανοί προσέρχονται στην Θεία Λειτουργία της πρωτοχρονιάς.

Ο κ. Δημήτριος Νικολαϊδης, Υπουργός Ανώτερης Εκπαίδευσης στην Αλμπέρτα, συμμετείχε στη Θεία Λειτουργία με τη σύζυγό του και τις δύο θυγατέρες τους και όλοι κοινώνησαν των Αχράντων Μυστηρίων.

Στη συνέχεια έγινε η κοπή της βασιλόπιτας στο Κοινοτικό Κέντρο.

Φιλική συζήτηση είχε ο Αρχιεπίσκοπος Σωτήριος με τον Υπουργό κ. Δ. Νικολαΐδη και τον παρεκάλεσε να διαβιβάσει τις ευχές του για το νέο έτος στον Πρωθυπουργό της Alberta κ. Jason Kenney. Τον προσκάλεσε να επισκεφθεί την Ι. Αρχιεπισκοπή μας. Συμφώνησαν να συνεργασθούν για τον εορτασμό της 200ης επετείου της ανεξαρτησίας της Ελλάδας το 2021.
